Approval has been granted by Ipswich City Council to build a new mechanical car wash with facilities to pamper man’s best friend in the city’s booming eastern fringe.

The facility will be located on the corner of Redbank Plains Road and Argyle Street in Redbank Plains on a 4231 m2 block.

A 7-Eleven service station is already on the eastern side of the site and an LPG gas tank and ‘softwash’ facility will be removed to make way for the new development.

The facility will be built and operated by APN Property Group and branded as ‘Sparkletown’.

It is planned to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week with two auto wash bays, four manual wash bays, five vacuum bays and a dog wash facility.

Only two staff will be needed on-site at any one time.

The ‘pooch pit’ will include two baths for pets.

“The proposed car wash will be accessed via the existing driveway crossovers via Redbank Plains Road and Argyle Street,” a council memorandum noted.

“The development does not comprise any alterations to the existing ‘7-Eleven’ Service Station and associated car parking.

“The applicant is proposing a two metre wide setback to the Argyle Street frontage of the site in lieu of six metre for the proposed vacuum bays and dog wash component of the development.”

The car wash is designed with a ‘Palm Springs’ theme with trees to be planted throughout the site.

The first ‘Sparkletown’ was built in Mackay in 2019.

“The proposed development has been designed to activate Argyle Street by introducing a landscape buffer with feature planting and by orientating the development to promote casual surveillance,” the original application noted.

“Since its development in 2019, the car wash has won design awards and accreditations and has been a very successful in engaging the community, particularly for car lovers, boat owners and pet-families.

The development won’t impact the service station on the site.

“The architectural design incorporates contemporary architecture and landscaping to create a development that is a destination and redefines the ‘concrete’ car wash.

“Sparkletown car wash facilities are at the industry forefront due to the deliberate and practical use of materials paired with an appreciation for landscaping, community needs and sustainability.”
