Brisbane Lions AFL legend Jason Akermanis took time out of his busy schedule as a real estate agent to resurrect some of his old style to give Redlands footballers a boost during the week.
The triple Lions premiership player was guest coach for the Victoria Point under 14.5 boys side at the Victoria Point Sharks home ground on Tuesday.
While the boys weren’t even born when Aker, 44, and the Lions won their last premiership in 2003, they soon got the idea that he was not there for just his good looks.
The inspiring coach putting them through some demanding skill drills, letting them know when they weren’t up to scratch.
Urged on by parents, the boys also demanded to know if the fit-looking Aker could still do a hand stand ... his signature move after some of his freakish AFL goals for the Lions.
He could, and he did!
“I’m getting a bit old now,” he told the crowd at the Victoria Point Sharks Club after displaying his handstand skills.
The Brownlow medallist opened his own real estate agency, Blue Moon, in Ascot this year after moving back to the Sunshine State following a southern sojourn in Victoria, where he also played after a stint with the Western Bulldogs from 2007 to 2010.
He had worked for Ray White, the biggest agency in the country, where he was mentored by ex-AFL star and property stalwart Dwight Ferguson.
