William Monos reveals future for Mr Sleepyman, Johnny Dees closes down

One Gympie region business is on the rocks and may be closing their doors for good, while another store has already bid farewell to their local customers.

The popular and affordable Mr Sleepyman in Gympie could be put to bed forever if the owner can't find a new location to set up shop, while Johnny Dees has already said goodbye.

It comes as another business, burger joint Johnny Dees, closes for good.

Mr Sleepyman owner William Monos said he opened his store in town after he saw multiple Gympie residents travelling to his 40-year-old Sunshine Coast business every day.

Now, Mr Monos has been asked to move on by the landlord who doesn’t want to rent the space month by month (an option the small business needs because the permanent rent in the prime location is too costly).

“We’ve got a lot of stock to move and we are desperately looking for an alternative premises,” Mr Monos said.

“We need a much bigger premises.

“I might not find anything so I might have to end up closing.”

Mr Monos has been frantically looking and applying for empty shops throughout the Gympie region but has had no luck yet.

He’s concerned for his staff who will be left without a job if he has to close his doors.

“We had a girl just start and I would hate for her to not have a job,” he said.

While Mr Sleepyman might have a fighting chance at staying open, another business in the region hasn’t been so lucky.

Johnny Dees made the decision to close their doors this month and the news came as a shock to Gympie residents.

Popular burger joint Johnny Dees announced on their social media page that they would be closing down.

“We would like to thank all our fantastic staff and all our wonderful customers for their support over the years, but unfortunately our lease has come to an end and we have decided to close Johnny Dees,” they said on Facebook.
