Don't miss out on the headlines from Gympie. Followed categories will be added to My News.
From devastating floods to a housing crunch or the eternal spectre of worn down and pot-holed roads, there was no shortage of topics keeping Gympie councillors on their toes since they took office in 2020.
Now the clock is ticking down the final weeks of their terms, and we want to know how well you think they performed.
It has been an unprecedented four-year term which started with nationwide pandemic lockdowns shortly after the March 2020 elections.
The council soon found itself at the centre of several controversies, including repealing – and then reinstating -environmental protections within its planning scheme, and an eventual split with the Mary Valley Rattler venture it resuscitated in 2018 amid million-dollar cost blowouts.
It was also faced with a trio of flood disasters in the first half of 2022, including the second-worst in Gympie’s recorded history.
Other headlines include the creation of short-term emergency housing solutions at the former Jane St Caravan Park site through a partnership with the state government, work to address ongoing long term financial sustainability concerns.
Cast your vote on the performance of the council and councillors below, and have your say on where you think the next council’s primary focus should after the March elections.
Voting closes midnight Sunday, January 21, 2024.
Editor’s note: This poll has been extended from its original closing date of Wednesday, January 17.
