Visiting travellers to the Mary Valley were literally left up a creek without a paddle, after they drove their newly rented 4WD into a creek near Kenilworth.

Images have surfaced of the moment a Clayton’s Towing crew was called to the scene of the crash near Booloumba Creek First Crossing at 12.31am last Wednesday.

A brand new rented Toyota HiLux was found submerged in the creek.

According to a Facebook post from the towing company, the tourists were trying to cross the creek but somehow drove into the deep instead.

The car was then winched onto dry land using an excavator from the Gympie depot.

It did not appear to be structurally damaged, but the same could not be said for the electronics inside.

The interior of the Toyota HiLux was filled with water after it was driven into Booloumba Creek in the Mary Valley. The electronics were completely destroyed in the process.

“Unfortunately with electronics cars aren’t so unbreakable, and that was the end of this vehicle’s trip,” Clayton’s Towing said on their Facebook page on Monday.

As a result of the crash, the tourists lost their $5000 deposit on the car, Clayton’s Towing said.

The comments section of the post was filled with onlookers making jokes at the bizarre situation, while others questioned how the car ended up in the creek in the first place.

“Only got stuck there because they went up the creek without a paddle,” Wayne Scott said.

“Is it possible that they were using the navigation system in the car and it sent them up the creek?” Paul Robertson said.

A spokesperson for Clayton’s Towing said they could not confirm if anyone was injured.
