Gympie’s aged care services are getting a shot in the arm with 13 new beds coming to the St Vincent’s Care centre on Bligh St.
The new beds have been allocated by the Federal Government as part of the Federal Government’s 2020 Aged Care Approval Rounds.
Beds allocated under the program will become available within the next 18 months.
Wide Bay MP Llew O’Brien said the expansion was great for people who wanted to keep their senior family members close by.
“This allocation means more Gympie seniors will be able to access care that is close to their loved ones, and they can remain a part of the community that they love,” Mr O’Brien said.
“It also means that local seniors and their families can have peace of mind and can be confident of their future at Gympie, knowing they have care options close to home.
There were more than 4000 residential care places and 1000 short-term restorative care places awarded under the program, with a combined worth of $380 million.
Aged Care Services Minister Richard Colbeck said he was “delighted” by the response from aged care providers across the country,
“I’m delighted with the response by providers that demonstrated their capacity to fast-track the delivery of quality care to senior Australians,” Mr Colbeck said.
“Investing in aged care infrastructure means we can improve the quality and safety of residential aged care from the ground up.
“Safe, secure and comfortable residential care homes, designed around the needs of residents, provide the foundation for our five-pillar, five-year aged care reform plan.”
