Spotlight reveals plans to expand into Gympie at Monkland's Bunworth Park industrial hub.

National retail chain Spotlight may finally be on its way to Gympie with developers unveiling plans to open an outlet of the national brand at the city’s southern end.

The development plans, lodged with Gympie Regional Council, reveal the chain plans to open its shop at Monkland’s Bunworth Park industrial hub, east of the Bruce Hwy.

The outlet would be about 100m from Harvey Norman and across the road from Autobarn if approved for development.

The 0.5ha block is vacant.

The building itself, which would be leased, would have a proposed shop area of 2160sq m.

Its application says the outlet “is the first Spotlight within the Gympie local government area … providing an exciting opportunity to diversify shopping options within the surrounding area”.

Traffic access will come off Edwin Campion Dr.

The proposed Spotlight outlet would be about 100m away from Harvey Norman and opposite Autobarn.

Parking for 54 cars including staff vehicles is provided in the plans, including one with disability access.

The council has not made any decision on the application, which was lodged this month.

Spotlight’s website says it has 291 outlets across not only Australia but internationally, including 148 bearing the Spotlight brand.

The shop would be accessible from Edwin Campion Dr, with parking available for 54 vehicles.

The remainder are Anaconda and Harris Scarfe chains.

It is the chain’s second major project in the Wide Bay in the past five years, following its development of a $60 million shopping precinct in Hervey Bay.

The brand’s first outlet was opened in Malvern, Melbourne, in 1973.

It then expanded to Box Hill in 1976.

The chain’s stock includes bedroom items, home decor, curtains, blinds, art and crafts, and party goods.
