Spectacular drone video reveals Gympie Bypass progress

Exclusive new footage has revealed the progress of the $1 billion Bruce Highway being built east of Gympie, with work to start to the city’s north in August.

$1b Gympie Bypass work steams ahead

Work on the Gympie Bypass will begin at Curra next month as construction of the $1 billion mega project continues to steam ahead, with the long-awaited road expected to be finished by mid-2024.

The realignment of Bannister, Ashford and Brady’s roads will begin in August providing the weather holds, joining an already extensive list of work carried out by crews.

The work has been carried out under two major contracts awarded by the State Government.

Contract one involved completion of most of the clearing work between Woondum and Sandy Creek Road at Veteran, with bridges under construction.

Heavy machinery and mining equipment was brought in to excavate and cart materials and Bielby BMD Joint Venture has undertaken controlled blasting at the location of the new Penny Rd interchange to remove rock.

Bridge works have begun at the Keefton Rd underpass, Six Mile Creek bridge, East Deep Creek Rd, Tannery Creek bridge, Randwick Rd bridge, Deep Creek bridge, Tin Can Bay Rd Bridge and Gympie Connection Rd bridge.

An upgrade and realignment of a 1.2km section of Gympie Connection Rd between the Ascot Rd/Old Goomboorian Rd intersection and Tin Can Bay Rd is underway.

This section of Gympie Connection Road has been closed during the works and is expected reopen to traffic next month (August 2021), weather and conditions permitting.

Contract two was awarded to CPB Contractors Pty Limited in March 2021, with work underway.

Line marking changes have been completed at the Harvey Siding Rd intersection at Curra to make it safer for northbound vehicles to turn right from the existing Bruce Highway.

Vegetation clearing has begun, and heavy equipment is arriving on site for bulk earthworks expected to start from August.

The state’s Transport Department wanted to thank Gympie’s residents for their patience during the Bypass’s construction.

The $1 billion Bypass is jointly funded by the Federal Government contributing $800 million and the Queensland Government contributing $200 million.
