A woman locked herself in her house with her young child when a man armed himself with a metal pole and tried to coax her out of her house.

Shaun Dylan Kennedy parked his car outside the woman’s Tin Can Bay home on November 27 about 2.20pm.

Gympie Magistrates Court was told the woman was inside with her three-year-old child and told Kennedy, “Don’t, my daughter is here” as he walked up to the door and hit the flyscreen with the pole.

Police prosecutor Vicki Kennedy-Grills said Kennedy looked directly at her and said “come outside here”, and taunted her by saying if she didn’t come outside, he would go in to her.

The fearful woman locked herself in the house before eventually fleeing out the back door with her toddler, seeking refuge at a nearby stranger’s house.

Kennedy’s partner eventually arrived and tried to defuse the situation by telling him there were kids inside, Sergeant Kennedy-Grills said.

Kennedy told the court he was angry and lashed out but it was no excuse for his behaviour.

Kennedy conceded to magistrate Chris Callaghan he did not stop when he found out there was a child at the home and continued to yell as he left.

“That aggravates the matter,” Mr Callaghan said.

The pole used was a trolley jack Kennedy kept in his bedroom, with the court told he now worked as a shed builder for a family friend.

Kennedy pleaded guilty in Gympie Magistrates Court to going armed in public to cause fear.

He was fined $750.
