A woman was caught doing drugs outside of a McDonald’s only days after she was released on parole for drug and burglary offences.

Jade Elizabeth Yu Mei Hoon, 42, pleaded guilty in Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday, December 12, to possessing meth, possessing fentanyl and failing to dispose syringes.

Police doing patrols in Southside spotted Hoon squatting outside of a McDonald’s with two syringes in her hand on October 4 about 7.30pm, the court was told.

Hoon got up and quickly walked away when she spotted the officers, indicating she was going to get rid of the sharps in her hand.

The officers asked her if she had anything else in her possession to which she responded “no, all I’ve got is this clip seal plastic bag with some gear in it” and handed over the bag.

Inside was 2.8g of crystal meth including the weight of the clip seal bag, police prosecutor Vicki Kennedy-Grills told the court.

Police continued the search and found two patches of fentanyl, roughly cut in half, in her back pocket along with the syringes in her hand.

Hoon initially told police she had not used syringes but there was still a small amount of liquid inside one, the court heard.

She later told police she had mixed the fentanyl with vinegar and injected it before she ran into police and hadn’t had time to dispose of the syringes.

Defence lawyer Chris Anderson said Hoon had been cooperative with corrective services and she was “going well on parole” while fighting her drug addiction.

She was last employed in 2012 and is currently a carer for a person who lives in Kandanga, Mr Anderson said.

Magistrate Chris Callaghan said she was sentenced for stealing, possessing drugs and a burglary on May 23, 2022 and was released on parole on September 30.

“Four or five days after your release, you were found with these drugs,” Mr Callaghan said.

Hoon was sentenced to three months imprisonment wholly suspended for 12 months.
