A 28-year-old Gympie man who attacked his partner three times in 22 days, including once while she was holding their two-year-old son, escaped jail time when he fronted the Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday.
The man who cannot be named for legal reasons pleaded guilty to contravening a domestic violence order four times, as well as driving unlicensed twice.
Police prosecutor Melissa Campbell told the court one attack occurred while the victim was driving his car and their young son was in the back seat. Another attack occured while she was holding their son.
Magistrate Kurt Fowler called the man’s behaviour ‘disgusting and abhorrent’.
“You are a role model for your child,” he said.
The man agreed, and said he was striving every day to be a better role model for his son.
He was fined $300 and disqualified from driving for six months, and sentenced to six months behind bars, which was suspended for 15 months.
