Police said Thursday a 28-year-old Brooloo man was fined three times over an abandoned silver Ford Falcon with fake licence plates left at the corner of Coonoongibber Creek Rd and Mary Valley Rd about February 28.

The statement said officers spoke with its owner, who declined to say who had been driving the car before it was abandoned.

He was then fined a total of $1354 for allowing the use of an unregistered, uninsured, and defective vehicle.

The man was ordered to appear at Gympie Magistrates Court on April 3 over allegations he was driving while unlicensed, uninsured, and in an unregistered vehicle.

Police allege on an undisclosed date he was caught driving the same car by patrols near Breakneck Rd, Brooloo.

Officers had been called to area over reports of hooning.

An 18-year-old Kenilworth man was fined and had his car immobilised for 90 days after he was allegedly caught doing burnouts near the corner of Coonoongibber Creek Rd and Mary Valley Rd on March 14.

In a third incident, on March 1 police tried to pull over a white Holden Calais on the Bruce Highway near Traveston, but the car allegedly sped away.

Police said Thursday CCTV footage from a business captured immediately before the alleged incident led to the driver’s identification, and a 17-year-old Gympie boy was ordered to appear in court on April 10 on charges of evading police, displaying false plates, driving an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, and failing to display P Plates.
