An elderly Tin Can Bay woman had to fend off a 26-year-old Rockhampton mum with a walking stick, after she tried to get into the woman’s house after a night out.

Nadine Stevie Wilkinson pleaded guilty in Gympie District Court on Monday to wilful damage and serious assault.

She was supported by her partner in the public gallery.

The court heard Wilkinson, who was working at a fish and chip shop at the time, had been enjoying drinks with colleagues on the night of July 23, 2021, prior to the run-in.

Later that night, a 72-year-old Tin Can Bay woman woke to the sound of banging on her courtyard door only to come face-to-face with a drunk Wilkinson.

Crown Prosecutor Darcy Evans said Wilkinson got in the woman’s face and told her she had stolen her phone.

“The complainant angled her walking stick to keep the defendant away, but the defendant pushed the complainant,”Mr Evans said.

Wilkinson then attempted to get into the woman’s house and damaged the fly screen while telling the woman (Wilkinson) she was “evil”, the court heard.

“The defendant stated … ‘you don’t know how evil I can be’,” Mr Evans said.

The woman attempted to de-escalate the situation and offered to walk Wilkinson home, but she refused.

She then pushed past the woman and sat on the floor inside the home, where she fell asleep.

The woman then called police, who found Wilkinson out cold and arrested her.

Defence barrister Amelia Loode said her client had “over-indulged” with alcohol on the night of the offences.

She said the 12-month anniversary of Wilkinson’s then-partner’s suicide was approaching at the time, which had sent Wilkinson into a spiral.

However, her client was now drug and alcohol free.

Wilkinson herself told the court she was “disgusted” in her actions that night and “felt horrible” for what she put the woman through.

Judge Ian Dearden said Wilkinson was “obviously off her face” that night.

Wilkinson was sentenced to nine months behind bars but was immediately released on parole.

She was ordered to pay $74.55 in compensation.

A conviction was recorded.
