Man charged with stabbing uncle to death has case return to court
A man who allegedly stabbed his uncle to death before being shot by police and falling into a coma has had his murder case delayed until 2026.
A Gympie region man involved in a family squabble which allegedly ended in murder has moved through the courts again.
Kilkivan resident James John Neale was charged with stabbing his 55-year-old uncle Paul Mann to death on the Running Creek Rd property they shared about 50km west of Gympie on the afternoon of April 12 last year.
Police allege the local police officer who attended the scene had no choice but to shoot Mr Neale after being tasked to the family dispute about 3pm that day, which quickly escalated.
Mr Neale, who was 42 years old at the time, was also charged on that same day with seriously assaulting a police officer while armed, or pretending to be armed, with a weapon.
Mr Neale was shot once in the chest after he allegedly ran at the police officer, and was flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.
He fell into a coma, and has since recovered from the incident.
His attendance was excused for his latest mention at Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday, and no pleas have been entered.
The matter was adjourned to March 16, 2026 for mention.
