Man charged after alleged carjacking attempt at Goomeri

A man is facing charges of attempted robbery after an alleged nighttime carjacking reportedly ended painfully for the would-be thief who was stabbed with his own knife.

A 25-year-old man has been charged following an incident in Goomeri in which he allegedly tried to steal at knifepoint before being stabbed by his own weapon.

Police will allege the man was armed with the knife when he approached a Takura couple, a 52-year-old man and 49-year-old woman, while they were sitting in their car outside a business near the intersection of Laird and Moore Sts about 6.10pm Tuesday, July 23.

He allegedly approached the man and demanded their vehicle.

It is alleged a fight then ensued between the two men, during which the 25-year-old was stabbed in the leg.

Police allege he fled the scene with minor injuries, and was arrested at Redcliffe on Wednesday.

The man has been charged with two counts of attempted armed robbery, and is due to appear at the Redcliffe Magistrates Court on Thursday, July 25.
