Kyle James Richardson charged with dangerous driving causing death

A man charged with causing a horror crash that claimed a woman’s life on the Bruce Hwy has found out what will happen next in his case.

The charges against a man charged over a crash on the Bruce Hwy near Gympie that claimed the life of a Sunshine Coast woman have been mentioned in Maryborough Magistrates Court.

Kyle James Richardson, 24, was charged with driving uninsured, driving unlicensed, driving unregistered, and dangerous driving causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance in the wake of the crash at Kanigan on December 21, 2023.

Those charges were mentioned before Maryborough Magistrates Court on Monday.

The crash happened just after 8.15pm on December 21 when a Nissan Terrano and Toyota Yaris travelling on the Bruce Hwy at Kanigan collided head on.

Mr Richardson, who is in custody, did not appear in court during the mention.

Lawyer Morgan Harris requested a four-week adjournment of the matter.

He said he had been advised a full brief of evidence had been disclosed and the matter would proceed by registry committal.

Mr Harris said there would not be an application for bail on this occasion.

Sunshine Coast mother Cassandra Reilly, 41, was killed in the crash.

Ms Reilly lived in the township of Reeseville, near Maleny in the Mary Valley, and it is understood she had family in Maryborough.

She had been working at a popular Caloundra cafe the Pastry Lab at the time of her tragic death.

Magistrate John Milburn adjourned the matter until September 30, 2024.
