Israel Colin Buggy, Alec Campbell Jardine mentioned in court

Two of the five men charged over a stabbing attack on Gympie boxer and trainer Danny Hawkins had their matters mentioned in court with one remanded in custody. LATEST UPDATE

The last of a group of men charged over the stabbing of a well-known Gympie boxer were mentioned in court on Monday.

One was remanded in custody to the next sittings of the Gympie District Court and was listed for sentencing on Monday, March 27, 2023 despite no formal plea being entered.

Gympie boxer and trainer Danny Hawkins suffered several stab wounds and other injuries and was airlifted to hospital in Brisbane after the attack in the front yard of his Parsons Rd home on September 18, 2021.

Five men were charged over the attack and three of them have already been sentenced.

On Monday, Israel Colin Buggy, 46, was represented by defence lawyer D. Barker via telephone when his matter was mentioned.

The court heard Mr Buggy was charged with an act intended to cause grievous bodily harm. He has not yet entered a plea.

Judge Gary Long adjourned the matter to the May 2023 sittings of the Gympie District Court.

Alec Campbell Jardine, 20, was charged with grievous bodily harm.

He had previously been set for trial, but was on Monday listed for sentence on March 27, 2023.

No plea was entered.

Mr Jardine was represented by defence lawyer Alri Maritz.

Mr Buggy has been remanded in custody and Mr Jardine is on bail.
