The owners new Goomeri bookshop that opened on Sunday, Wimberley & Co, are excited to provide locals and tourists with a book haven to enjoy.
As a lover of books herself, Felicity Dascombe said the whimsical store was something her and her husband Andrew had spoken about from time to time.
“We thought about this 20 years ago and were busy with our family business Pursers Coaches,” Mrs Dascombe said.
“Last year during Covid and spending more time in our hometown of Goomeri it all fell into place.”
Wimberley & Co opened nine months after the couple departed on their new venture and since opening, Mrs Dascombe said the shop has received “amazing” support.
“We have amazing industry support from distribution houses, publishing houses, authors and other bookstore owners all happy to help,” she said.
“We feel it’s added to our community, we have great shops opening up in town and the more on offer the more our whole community benefits.
“We have some great local authors, who we will have in store to meet people and promote their work.”
The building itself has a long history, originally opening as a grocery and hardware store by the Wimberly family in 1923.
The newly renovated store not only offers new books, but customers will also find preloved books and beautiful gifts.
“We are lucky our three kids are happy to be apart of this project, as with our extended family and friends,” Mrs Dascombe said.
Mrs Dascombe believes the store will become another spot for travellers to stop and visit, while also being a place for the local community.
“We support many local clubs and groups and Wimberley will continue to do so as well,” she said.
