A 32-year-old Maroochydore woman pleaded with the Gympie magistrate to be released on bail to care for her 15-week-old child on Monday.
Danielle Jasmine Saunders faced the court via video link where she pleaded guilty to charges of possessing a pipe to smoke methamphetamine and to attempted fraud.
The court heard the pipe was found on her while she was under the influence of methamphetamine and pushing her newborn baby in a pram on Maroochydore Road at Maroochydore on February 27.
“I have a 15-week-old newborn baby, your honor, I need to be released,” Saunders told Magistrate Kurt Fowler.
Bail was denied.
In relation to the attempted fraud charge, the court heard Saunders had tried to claim $500 that was handed in to Gympie police as hers on February 15.
Police prosecutor Melissa Campbell said Saunders was at the police station for a separate matter when the money was handed in, and she overheard a conversation regarding its owner. She was only charged with the offence after the real owner came forward.
She was sentenced on Monday to two months jail, suspended for eight months.
She will be released from prison in December due to an earlier sentence for breaching parole.
