Mary River on flood watch as Gympie braces for another 90mm

The South East is expecting up to 50mm of rain today, which could lead to flooding after parts of the region copped large falls on Thursday, while thunderstorms are also likely and could cause localised flooding

Gympie officially recorded 34mm overnight but more northern parts of the region recorded more, with Tiaro recording more than 50mm, and Bundaberg on edge after recording more than 200mm.

A flood watch has been issued on the Mary River and minor flooding is expected over the next few day, with up to 60mm possible today and 30mm on Saturday.

A trough is forecast to continue moving slowly east across the state bringing showers and severe thunderstorms with heavy rainfall in most areas of southern Queensland which may cause flooding impacts. The risk of heavy rainfall will gradually move eastward over this period.

Parts of the region are wet following showers and thunderstorms through November and particularly over the last week.

A continuation of heavy rainfall is expected to continue today with the heaviest rainfall expected in the Central West, and Central Highlands and Coalfields and then in catchments along the coast between Rockhampton and Hervey Bay. Very heavy rainfall rates are possible for some areas particularly in association with thunderstorms, which are likely to cause localised flooding.

Widespread minor flooding is likely across the flood watch area over the next few days, with isolated moderate flooding possible.

Flood Warnings are current for Eyre Creek, the Barcoo and Paroo rivers, Wallam Creek, the Condamine, Balonne, Moonie, Macintyre and Weir Rivers, the Dawson River and the lower Brisbane River tributaries. Further renewed river and creek level rises are likely.
