Joy, nervousness, and even some tears were in the air as hundreds of Gympie Prep students – and their parents – celebrated a life changing milestone at primary schools across the region on Tuesday.

The Gympie Times’ photographer was on hand for their first moments at Gympie West State School and Victory College, snapping photos of the momentous occasion as the region’s newest students donned their uniforms, grabbed the bags and books, and started out on their school journeys.

They were part of a 43,000-strong cohort of new students across the state heading to schools for their first time.

Good luck to all the teachers, parents and children who are starting school across the region this week.
