Hungry Gympie residents and highway drivers have been unable to get their hands on a Big Mac for lunch on Wednesday, after the River Rd restaurant unexpectedly closed and was roped off to customers.
It is understood the store suffered a major electrical fault sometime during the day.
The car park was closed off to customers, the restaurant was in darkness, and chairs and milk crates barricaded the entrance.
The Gympie Times reached out to McDonald’s Queensland head office, and was told the issue was likely a short term one which would be resolved quickly.
The store is expected to reopen by Wednesday night.
The business is one of two McDonald’s in the Gympie region, after a second store opened in Traveston, south of Gympie, in May 2021.
Both stores are owned by Craig Manley, who also owns a number of McDonald’s restaurants across the Wide Bay.
