A Curra father who said the main intersection with the Bruce Hwy at Curra was dangerous and should be upgraded has vowed to continue his fight despite Main Roads asserting there’s nothing wrong with it.
Carl Stevens said he was prepared to take the issue all the way to parliament after the Transport and Main Roads Department said the David Drive intersection was “not dangerous”.
Mr Stevens raised his concerns after his daughter was involved in a serious crash there on May 19, 2021.
He said on Tuesday his biggest concern was motorists ignoring the two stop signs at the intersection and the 100km/h speed limit along the Bruce Hwy.
On Friday, he said he felt DTMR had not investigated the intersection thoroughly in delivering its verdict that it was not dangerous..
“All I’m really asking for is to lower the speed limit,” Mr Stevens said.
“I can’t see what else I can do.”
A worker at the service station fronting the intersection has back Mr Stevens’ stance on social media:
“I worked at that (Puma service station) centre for 15 years and the amount of accidents I witnessed is unbelievable,” Donna Ross posted.
Mr Stevens said he had spoken with Wide Bay MP Llew O’Brien who had referred him to state MP Tony Perrett. He now hoped Mr Perrett would sponsor a petition calling for something to be done at the intersection.
