Gympie’s second largest high school has a new principal, with a 20-year education veteran stepping in to replace Jackson Dodd, who is bowing out, at James Nash State High.
Chris Shevelling’s appointment was revealed by the school in a newsletter on Tuesday, June 13.
Mr Shevelling replaces Jackson Dodd, whose five-year term in the job was marred by controversy after internal staff emails were leaked and made statewide headlines.
Mr Dodd was appointed principal in 2018, when Darrin Edwards left to become executive principal at Mountain Creek State High on the Sunshine Coast after 12 years at the helm.
He came under scrutiny in 2022 following revelations he had allegedly sent “explicit” video clips to other staff members.
Mr Dodd was suspended as part of an Education Department investigation into the matter.
He returned to work in January 2023, and an Education Department spokesman at the time said the investigation was completed and action taken “in line with departmental processes”.
Mr Shevelling said in the school’s newsletter he was “thrilled to be a part of this incredible community”.
The Department of Education has been contacted with a request to interview Mr Shevelling.

“I am passionate about education and look forward to working together to ensure that every student at James Nash State High School receives the highest quality education and leaves ready for the next chapter in their lives.”
Mr Shevelling’s teaching background includes stints most recently Caboolture State High School.
