A Kanigan couple hopes to transform their rural property into an off-grid mountain hideaway offering guests some of the most spectacular views between Gympie and Maryborough.
Susanna and Mark Davies have lodged plans with Gympie Regional Council to turn a 31ha block on Repeater Station Rd into the Scenic Mountain Views “eco bush” tourist park.
The park would consist of eight cabins nestled in the hills on the northern side of the Gunalda Range, 25km north of Gympie.
Each 5.9m x 7m cabin would be off the grid and have its own private access from the road.
The solar-powered cabins would each include a bedroom, living area, bathroom, undercover parking, and back-up generator.
A house and sheds are the only structures sitting on the block at the moment, and an “environmental rainforest” sits atop the mountain.
The Davies say no vegetation needs to be cleared to make way for the cabins.
The application lists a number of Gympie-based businesses which are proposed to be involved with constructing the park.
These include CES Energy, Mecano Building, Gympie Gold Electricals, JaK Drilling and Unearthed Geotechnical.
The Davies’ plan is the latest in a growing list of proposals to open tourist parks across the region.
Since the start of 2022 plans for tourist getaways and accommodation have been unveiled for Tuchekoi, Kandanga Creek, Traveston, and Carters Ridge.
The Carters Ridge, Tuchekoi, and Traveston proposals have been approved by the council’s Planning Department under delegation.
The council is still considering the Davies’ project and the plans at Kandanga Creek.
