The fallout from the devastating 2022 floods continue in Gympie, with another popular business opting out of the city centre.

Autosmash Collision Repairs, which was submerged entirely in the 2022 floods, are exploring options of moving their operations away from the city centre.

The fallout of the devastating 2022 floods in the centre of Gympie continues with a popular smash repair business lodging plans for a potential new building away from the flood plains.

Automotive Smash and Spray Painting Pty Ltd has asked for permission to overhaul a block in the Glanmire industrial estate, on the southern outskirts of Gympie near the Bruce Hwy, with an eye on transforming it into a new repair shop with a range of services available.

The company currently operates at the corner or Barter and Monkland Streets.

It was among the first CBD businesses to be inundated in the February 2022 floods, which left the CBD decimated.

The building it operates out of was submerged entirely under the floodwaters.

The owners of Autosmash Collision Centre have lodged an application with Gympie Regional Council to transform an industrial block at Glanmire into a new repair shop.

The new block is about 5km southeast of its CBD home.

Owner Alastair Lewis declined to comment on the application.

If approved the application would allow for the removal of two warehouses already on the land.

They would be replaced by a two-storey industrial building.

Inside would be room for wash bays, a panel strip and repair shop, paint preparation and spray painting facilities, buffing and refitting areas, and a handover bay.

An office space will be constructed at the front of the building, with more staff rooms and offices on the second floor.

The lingering impact of the floods, which reached the second-highest level on record at 23.96m, has been felt by many business with recovery work still underway.

The Royal Hotel at the intersection of Mary St and Monkland St is now being reinvented after more than a year of being shut.

Cooloola Paint and Panel, about 50m down Monkland St from the Royal Hotel, has undergone a full structural rebuild after its roof was submerged in twin disasters of 2022.

The panel shop was affected by the February and May floods as a result of it location at the lowest point of the city centre.
