85+ happy faces of past wedding days across the Gympie region

From wedding bells at St Patrick’s to country chic at the Muster and all places in between, here is a nostalgic selection of Gympie weddings from out of the archives and stretching all the way back to 1917. See the photos:

100+ years: Gympie weddings through the decades.

Whether you are on the hunt for wedding inspiration or simply want to take a trip down memory lane, we delved into the Gympie Times archives to find a selection of happy wedding day photos of the past across the Gympie region.

These photographs - one stretching all the way back to 1917 - might rekindle memories of a simpler time, before pandemics and lock downs, when fashions, hairstyles and bouquets were quite a bit different, but the joy and love look reassuringly the same.

Hugh and Dot Byrnes on their wedding day. Attending the couple on their wedding day was Dot's sister Polly Weedon (nee Adams) as bridesmaid and Hugh's brother Darcy as best man. Their family, John and his wife Debra and Aileen Patton and her husband Des along with five grandchildren will help the couple celebrate the milestone. Hugh and Dot were married in Gympie and lived there for a few years in the same area and their children were both born in Gympie. Hugh and Dot moved around the state with Hugh's work before retiring in Mackay close to their families. Hugh's brother and wife will come from Cairns for the occasion as will as seven of Dot's siblings form far away as Dalby, Brisbane, Eumundi and Imbil.
