Barbie fanatics will be saddened to learn the real-life dream house of every girl’s fantasy, which overlooks the bright blue ocean off the Central Queensland coastline, has sold for $1.55 million.
The iconic pink house’s striking resemblance to the toy version of Barbie’s home was not lost on McGrath Agnes Water 1770 sales agent Gordon Christian, or many of his clients, particularly as it was listed for sale for offers over $1.55 million just as the Barbie movie began rolling out across Australian cinemas in July, 2023.
Surprisingly, it was not the resemblance that drew the new owners to buy the five-bedroom home at 51 Captain Cook Drive.
“They just loved the location,” Mr Christian said.
“It was just incredible value.”
It’s the only home that has sold for more than $1m in the last 12 months along that vast street running through the heart of Ages up to 1770 and one of four homes that has sold for more than $1m since March 2018.
Much like Barbie’s group of friends, the lengthy street houses very diverse homes.
Nine homes have sold since March 2018 for between $300,000 and $660,000.
Just like Barbie herself, none can compare to the renowned pink dream house.
Mr Christian said while there was interest from interstate, it was regional buyers from the Burnett area that snapped up the property for full price.
He said the new owners planned to use the property, understandably, as a holiday home.
So, maybe there will be poolside parties galore.
Mr Christian said they were the third owners of what he described as a “three-storey palace”.
Situated on a large 1448 sqm block spanning the coast and Agnes Point, what appears to be one bright pink mansion with baby blue-coloured trimming, is actually two dwellings and a pool.
The main home has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, two living areas, two decks, an office and workshop, plus ocean views from all three levels.
The master suite has a “rock star size walk in robe and ensuite”, which is purple.
The second dwelling is a fully self-contained two-bedroom unit with one bathroom, a living area, deck and polished timber floors.
The pool terraces also features a sundeck and Bali Hut cabana.
Built in 2002, Mr Christian said the home was built by late Agnes Water surfing identity Vlad Golar.
“He was an early entrepreneur in Agnes Water,” he said.
“He started the restaurant Kahunas Bar and Grill.
“He was a flamboyant guy.
“He was an ex-Gold Coast boy, so he knew what style was all about.”
Mr Christian said the property was in a “prime location”, being close to town and Agnes Main Beach.
It is also located across the road from Drift and Wood Restaurant and Bar, which was previously Vlad’s restaurant Kahunas Bar and Grill.
While Mr Christian said the majority of inquiries for homes in Agnes Water were from the Sunshine Coast, he said he was “seeing strong movement from coming from Gladstone now that Gladstone prices are rising”.
“We are seeing a movement of Gladstone money coming back into our market and I think that will continue as Gladstone’s market continues to rise and as a number of the projects start to become realities.
“I think we will see a fairly significant amount of money coming from Gladstone for the next two to three years.”
