Woman armed with leaf blower in Gladstone DV incident

After throwing two chairs at her mother, an angry Gladstone daughter took things up a notch by grabbing a leaf blower and threatening to hit her mum with it.

A daughter who threw chairs at her mother before threatening to hit her with a leaf blower, has faced court in Central Queensland.

The 36-year-old daughter, who by law cannot be named, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on February 19 to contravening a domestic violence order.

The court heard that about 1.25pm on February 3, the daughter and her mother were at a Gladstone residence when they got into an argument.

“The argument started because the (daughter) told the (mother) she was going to exercise in the garage,” police prosecutor Sergeant Kevin Ongheen said.

“The (mother) has said ‘why would you exercise in this heat - don’t be silly’.”

Sergeant Ongheen said the daughter started yelling at her mum, telling her not to call her silly.

The court heard the mother then went “out the back” to hang out washing and the daughter followed her while continuing to yell at her.

The daughter picked up a chair and threw it towards her mum, before picking up a second chair and doing the same thing.

The daughter then picked up a leaf blower and told her mum she was going to hit her with it, Sergeant Ongheen said.

The daughter then threw the leaf blower to the side of her mum.

Police arrived and arrested the daughter and took her to the watchhouse.

The court heard the daughter had no criminal history.

Solicitor Bianca Wieland said the daughter was remorseful for the way she had treated her mum.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan fined the daughter $500 and no conviction was recorded.
