A man involved in a violent street fight with his boyfriend during peak-hour traffic on a Central Queensland road, has faced court.
The 27-year-old male defendant, who by law cannot be named, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on March 4 to public nuisance (domestic violence offence).
The court heard that about 5.43pm on February 5, police were called to Glenlyon Road, Gladstone, where the defendant was being assaulted by his boyfriend on the side of the road.
The court was told it was peak-hour traffic at the time and witnesses reported seeing the defendant with his shirt ripped up and “blood all over his face.”
“The witnesses said they were terrified by the attack... and (had) called Triple-0 to report it as they were concerned for the welfare of the defendant,” police prosecutor Jennifer Leach said.
The witnesses reported seeing the defendant flee on foot into bushland and his boyfriend follow him.
The court heard that the defendant’s boyfriend was arrested in bushland near the scene, and police called in a police dog to try and locate the defendant who was later found at a residence.
Officers saw injuries to the defendant’s face and neck.
The defendant confirmed he had a physical fight with his boyfriend, however neither of them wished to make a criminal assault complaint.
The court heard the defendant had no criminal history.
Solicitor Rio Ramos said the defendant was unemployed and alcohol was the reason the men got into the street fight.
Magistrate Mary Buchanan placed the defendant on a nine-month good behaviour order with a $450 recognisance.
No conviction was recorded.
