A Gladstone woman who climbed out of a car window to scream at a police station pleaded guilty to driving while meth was in her system.

Latesha Ellen Joyce McGrath, 24, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Monday to one count of driving a motor vehicle while a relevant drug was present in her system while being the holder of a provisional license.

After disrupting the court and leaving the room, McGrath re-entered for her matter and apologised to Magistrate John Milburn and the police prosecutor, telling them she was on her third day of detoxing from meth and “a little bit moody”.

“My apologies ma’am, I’m withdrawing off the meth and not really in the best state at the moment,” she told the prosecutor.

The court heard that on July 17 about 11.07am, Gladstone police intercepted McGrath who was allegedly driving erratically on Yarroon St, Gladstone Central.

Police prosecutor Jennifer Leach told the court that officers on scene reported that McGrath then parked outside a police station before climbing out of the driver’s window and swearing indiscriminately towards the building.

McGrath was then subjected to a drug test where traces of methylamphetamine were found in her blood and saliva.

Magistrate John Milburn asked McGrath after she made admissions to withdrawing from the substance whether he could rely on her “having her wits about her” to which she said “yes”.

Magistrate Milburn convicted McGrath, suspended her from driving for three months and ordered she pay a $350 fine, referred to SPER.

A traffic conviction was recorded.
