A Gladstone school has released a statement following a lunchtime incident which resulted in the school being placed into lockdown. Here’s what you need to know.

Gladstone State High School was temporarily locked down on Tuesday after a student behavioural incident during the lunchtime break.

Students and staff were placed under a precautionary lockdown about 11.30am Tuesday.

Emergency services responded to calls for assistance at the Dawson Road, Gladstone Central address and were no longer required about 12.30pm.

There were unconfirmed reports a person had climbed onto a roof at the school. It is understood the incident was mental health related.

One person was transported to Gladstone Hospital in a stable condition.

Gladstone State High School released a statement informing family and community members on Tuesday afternoon.

Officer in Charge, Cathy Holmes said the safety of students and staff was considered top priority.

“We initiated a precautionary lockdown at lunchtime today to safely manage an incident,” Ms Holmes said.

“I understand there may be some concerns from parents in the school community in relation to this matter and welcome (them) to contact me directly to discuss any issues.”

A Queensland Ambulance Services spokeswoman confirmed police also attended the scene and were no longer required a short time after.
