A doctor on-board a snorkelling tour gave assistance to a woman who was losing consciousness before she was airlifted to hospital.

The RACQ CapResuce chopper was tasked to Lady Elliot Island on Wednesday afternoon to attend to one patient following a snorkelling incident on Wednesday afternoon.

It is understood a woman in her 60s required medical attention after she left the water and once on land began to suffer from “altered states of consciousness”.

A CapRescue spokeswoman said the crew left the base about 1pm after receiving a call for assistance.

The woman in her 60s was first treated by a doctor who was part of the snorkelling group before the CapRescue chopper arrived.

The on-board medical crew then stabilised the patient for transport to the Rockhampton Hospital for further assessment.
