A man accused of breaking into a locked Gladstone home in the dead of night before allegedly stealing a mobile phone will spend Christmas behind bars.

Kadeem Wayne O’Rourke, 22, was charged with one count of enter dwelling and commit an indictable offence following police investigations into an alleged burglary at Clinton on Tuesday morning.

Police allege Mr O’Rourke broke into a locked address on Tryon Court about 1.05am before allegedly stealing a mobile phone.

Following investigations by the Gladstone Property Team, officers executed a search warrant later that morning at a Clinton address and located the 22 year old before arresting him.

During the search, police also located an 18-year-old man who was arrested in connection to an unrelated matter involving the alleged theft of a vehicle at New Auckland last month.

Mr O’Rourke was denied bail in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning and will remain in police custody until his matter is next due to be heard on January 9.

Police prosecutor, Sergeant Tanya Griffiths said Mr O’Rourke posed an unacceptable risk of reoffending if granted bail.
