A man told police he searched for child pornography images when either bored or high on methamphetamine, a court heard.

Jesse John Allwood-Beling’s laptop contained a large number of cartoon child pornography, such as a woman sexually abusing a baby while breastfeeding.

Allwood-Beling, 25, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to two counts of using a carriage service to access child pornography material, using a carriage service to access child abuse material and possessing child exploitation material in Gladstone District Court.

Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions Mathew Thompson told the court Allwood-Beling was charged after a police search warrant was executed on his house at Calliope on January 8, 2020.

“He told police there would be 200 anime (cartoon) images on his phone depicting young girls, from 10 to 20 years of age, posing in bikinis or nude as well as young girls engaging in sex with males,” he said.

“He also said the images would include depictions of rape, telling police he searched for the images on a website then downloaded to his phone.

“He told officers he started looking for that material around six months ago and the first time he looked was because he was bored.”

The court heard that during a later interview it was put to Allwood-Beling not all the images on his computer were transferred there and he internet searched some material.

“The defendant stated that only ever happened when he was on ice and that he had trouble recalling those incidents,” Mr Thompson said.

“The total number of images located on Allwood-Beling’s devices was 2,862, including six of real children under 13 engaging in sexual acts.

“Examples of the pornographic cartoons found on the defendant’s laptop included a woman breastfeeding a naked baby while sexually abusing the baby with her finger.”

Defence Barrister Scott Moon said his client had excellent prospects of rehabilitation given his young age and full cooperation with police during their investigation.

“He has the support of his parents, who he resides with, they are quite distraught about their son’s conduct and said the defendant had been living like a hermit since being charged in January 2020.

“His parent’s monitor his internet access, he is almost supervised by his parents and when they are at work he has his younger brother at home to keep an eye out.”

Judge Catherine Muir said Allwood-Beling’s conduct was serious criminal offending

“There were six images of real children under 13 being forced to engage in vile, non-consensual acts for the benefit of those such as you who create a market for such images,” she said.

Allwood-Beling was convicted and sentenced to 15 months imprisonment, wholly suspended for three years.
