A 14-year-old boy has faced the Children's Court after an assault which left a schoolteacher injured.

The boy pleaded guilty in Gladstone Children's Court on Friday to one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm in company, common assault, and breaching bail.

The court heard the victim of the AOBH offence was a female and the victim of the common assault offence was another person - both of those offences happened on August 1 last year.

The breach of bail offence happened four days later.

Police prosecutor Jennifer Leach asked Magistrate Mary Buchanan whether she required facts to be read onto the record and Ms Buchanan said she did not.

The court heard the boy had in February been given a six-month detention order, immediately suspended, by a District Court for “more serious charges.”

In relation to penalty for the latest charges before the court, Ms Leach said either probation or community service could be considered.

Solicitor Jun Pepito said the boy’s mother was in court to support him.

Mr Pepito said the boy was attending school and playing sport, and community service would be appropriate.

While Magistrate Buchanan did not require prosecution facts of the matters to be read onto the record in court, noting the circumstances were contained in the sentencing schedule, she did say prior to handing down penalty that “these are serious offences.”

Ms Buchanan added that it may not have been intended, but a schoolteacher was injured during the incident.

The Magistrate also said if these offences were committed by an adult, imprisonment could be imposed.

She further noted the boy’s juvenile criminal history was “very lengthy” for his age at six pages.

Ms Buchanan ordered the boy perform 20 hours of unpaid community service and no convictions were recorded.
