A Central Queensland mechanic who ripped off his former employer to the tune of thousands after leaving the company, has been sentenced.
Jack Daniel Wilson, 32, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on March 20 to 28 charges including eight counts of fraud as an employee, two counts each of unlawful use of motor vehicle and possessing dangerous drugs, and one count of drug-driving.
A 22-page sentencing schedule was tendered to the court.
On the fraud charges, the court heard that months after Wilson stopped working for Titan Coastal Industries, he used a business debit card eight times to rack up $4109 worth of personal purchases at petrol stations and Woolworths.
The court was told the unlawful use offences related to Wilson borrowing vehicles from people and not returning them.
It also heard Wilson had a four-page criminal history and an “extensive” seven-page traffic history.
Solicitor Rio Ramos said in relation to the fraud offences, Wilson accepted he should not have done what he did.
She said Wilson, a father of one, was now working as a senior technician at a motor mechanic shop at Biloela and he was highly regarded by his employer.
For the fraud offences, Magistrate Mary Buchanan sentenced Wilson to six months’ jail, wholly suspended for an operational period of 18 months.
On the other charges, Wilson was sentenced to 18 months’ jail, 156 days’ pre-sentence custody was declared as time already served, and immediate parole release was fixed.
Ms Buchanan ordered Wilson pay $4109 restitution and disqualified him from driving for six months.
Convictions were recorded.
