Kodi Louise Bowen pleaded guilty to multiple charges in the Gladstone Magistrates Court after she flicked blood at her victim after an altercation with another woman.

A Gladstone woman flicked blood onto the face of her victim after being involved in an incident at a busy shopping centre.

Kodi Louise Bowen, 30, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on July 2 to two counts of common assault and one count of wilful damage.

Police prosecutor Merrilyn Hoskins said the worst of Bowen’s offending occurred on March 2, 2021, about 4pm.

She said the victim had been sitting on a bench outside of Muffin Break in the Centro Shopping Complex on Goondoon Street when she observed Bowen arguing with another woman in the carpark.

Ms Hoskins said the victim observed the other woman run from Bowen and saw the latter give chase.

She said while pursuing the other female, Bowen came within one metre of the victim, who saw Bowen had a significant quantity of fresh blood on her hands and face.

Ms Hoskins said after running into, then emerging from a public bathroom within a two minute time frame, Bowen approached the victim and yelled, “that b---- owes me three hundred dollars!”

She said while yelling, Bowen flicked her right hand in the direction of the victim and on each occasion flicked blood from her right hand onto the victim’s face, shoulder and hand.

On March 4, police attended the residence of Bowen and questioned her regarding the incident.

Ms Hoskins said Bowen told police she had very little recollection of the events, however, had been made aware she had flicked blood onto a lady.

She said Bowen claimed she was drunk at the time and expressed remorse for her actions.

Magistrate Bevan Manthey said Bowen’s offending was on the serious end of the scale and she was lucky to escape jail time due to her prior offending.

Bowen was sentenced to three months imprisonment, wholly suspended for 12 months with convictions recorded.
