Gladstone Regional Council has broken its silence after weeks of unrest regarding the Queensland Government’s vaccine mandate.

As the festive season kicks into gear Queensland’s borders will be flung open from December 17.

However, from that date there will be stringent new laws in place for the unvaccinated which limits their movements in public, including exclusions from bars, pubs and clubs.

The new laws have caused unrest in regional Queensland, where vaccination rates are much lower than metropolitan areas, including Gladstone where Covid-19 complacency is rife.

Gladstone region Mayor Matt Burnett said council would continue to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of the community.

“We will follow the Queensland Government’s health directives, as we have done since the start of the pandemic,” Mr Burnett said.

Central Queensland Mayors have written to the state regarding our community's concerns about the impact the incoming public health directives will have on local businesses and employees and we look forward to working with the Government to find a solution.”
