Three Gladstone drug offenders named in court

From functioning grow tents to concealed bags, the offences of three drug offenders were detailed in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Monday and Tuesday.

A number of people faced Gladstone Magistrates Court so far this week charged with dangerous drug offences, from marijuana to drug paraphernalia.

Sascha William Blake, 44

Sascha William Blake, 44, on Monday pleaded guilty to possessing dangerous drugs.

A court heard that on September 15, around 2.40am, Blake was intercepted by police on the Dawson Highway in Clinton driving a red Holden Commodore.

Following a licence check, breath test and conversation with Blake, police formed the suspicion he was carrying dangerous drugs and searched him and his car.

Blake admitted he had wedged a small dried marijuana bud, which weighed .18 grams, in between the driver seat and centre console.

He was given his rights and cautions and made full admissions to owning the marijuana, saying he got it from a friend to smoke.

Blake was issued a notice to appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court.

Acting Magistrate Ron Muirhead convicted and fined Blake $300. A conviction was recorded.

Blake Fredrick Martin, 28, pleaded guilty in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday to possessing dangerous drugs.

On September 15 Martin was a passenger in a car intercepted by police on the Bruce Highway, Tannum Sands.

During conversation with the car’s occupants, police formed a suspicion they were in possession of dangerous drugs.

During a pat-down search of Martin, police located a plastic bag which contained .84 grams of marijuana down the front of his pants.

When questioned, Martin said it was “green”, that it was mixed with some tobacco and it was about two cones worth.

Martin was issued a notice to appear.

Acting Magistrate Ron Muirhead convicted and fined Martin $500. A conviction was recorded.

Craig Raymond Semmler, 51

Craig Semmler, 51, pleaded guilty in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on Monday to two counts of possessing utensils or pipes that had been used, possessing dangerous drugs and obstructing police.

On July 21, around 9.30am, police executed a search warrant on an Aurora Road address in Tannum Sands.

While searching Semmler, he was instructed to place his hands on his head but instead started waving his arms around aggressively.

Semmler was acting so aggressively throughout the duration of the police search he was arrested.

Upon being led out of the house by police he dropped his weight and refused to be removed from the house.

Semmler was transported to the Tannum Sands Police Station then, after becoming upset about the incident, to Gladstone Hospital.

Police located a swath of drug paraphernalia in Semmler’s house including two operational grow tents, one of which contained a potted marijuana plant, a used water pipe and an electric grinder.

Semmler admitted to owning all of the drug paraphernalia which police seized at his house.

Acting Magistrate Ron Muirhead convicted and fined Semmler $1200 and recorded convictions.
