A crime scene has been declared where a blaze consumed a single-storey house in Gladstone’s Auckland St overnight, causing it to partially collapse.
Fire investigators are today combing through the ruins of the house, which was understood to be abandoned, after emergency services were called about 9pm on December 12.
It took five crews of firefighters half an hour to get the house fire under control and by that point part of the structure had collapsed.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said firefighters remained until past 11pm, dampening down the house.
Police confirmed they are treating the fire in Gladstone Central as suspicious.
“Initial information indicates a Herbert Street premises caught alight by unknown means around 9.15pm on Thursday, December 12,” a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said.
“No one was injured and no other property has been damaged as a result of the fire.
“A crime scene was declared and investigations into the cause are underway.”
Police are appealing for anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
The house fire comes almost three weeks after another Gladstone house was destroyed by fire.
Tragically, grandmother and mother Joanne Daylight lost almost everything in that blaze, including her beloved dog Fifi.
She had lived in the Kin Kora Drive rental property for almost three decades.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help her.
