Gladstone Pfizer hub expected to cater to 600 vaccines every day

The new centre replaces the Gladstone Hospital clinic.

'An outstanding result': Record number of NSW residents vaccinated last week

Gladstone’s new community-based vaccination hub has now open and will be giving out hundreds of shots every day.

The new centre at Block B of the CQUniversity TAFE site in Derby Street opened today, August 23.

It’s expected to cater to 600 vaccines every day.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said the new centres will offer increased capacity in response to growing demand for vaccinations across regional Queensland.

She said people can also get vaccinated through eligible GPs and community pharmacies.

“As more Queenslanders come forward for vaccination and supply increases, we’re able to open up larger venues,” Ms D’Ath said.

“Many of our current vaccination sites are scalable, meaning they are able to ramp up daily capacity as more supply becomes available and we’re able to administer more and more vaccines.”

The new centre replaces the Gladstone Hospital clinic.

“Gladstone’s new site will increase to six bays, up from four at the hospital,” Ms D’Ath said.

Gladstone MP Glenn Butcher urged eligible residents yet to get the vaccine to please register their interest as soon as possible.

“This new centre will help ensure our region’s vaccination rates keep growing,” he said.

“If you want to get vaccinated, go online to register your interest.”

CQ Health Chief Executive Steve Williamson said the new centres were an exciting addition to the region.

“These new centres will initially cater for existing bookings and will progressively ramp up as vaccine supply increases to administer a combined 10,000 doses a week,” he said.

Bookings are preferred for vaccination at the new centre due to limited capacity for walk-ins.

The centre will initially open from 9am to 4pm from Monday to Friday with potential for extended hours in the future.

The Queensland Government is urging anyone aged 16 to 59 to register.

As Queensland Health manages the supply of the Pfizer vaccine across the state, vaccination will be prioritised for people who have a higher risk of exposure to COVID-19.
