A picturesque independent living facility will be established at the site of a popular Gladstone region motel.

The location of the since closed Palm Valley Motel in Tannum Sands will be transformed into a retirement village with the new owners making use of the existing rooms and facilities.

Future residents of the 21-unit facility will have access to a pool area, a barbecue, and a common room, as well as 30 car parks on site.

Gladstone Regional Council has approved the plans developed by Beach Rd Supported independent Living Pty Ltd which feature a material change of use that includes subdividing the land to make space for an office.

The site is located on Beach Av, Tannum Sands and is within walking distance of the beach, as well as a number of cafes and restaurants.

It comes as new data reveals that Queensland’s regional population continues to soar as the Covid-19 pandemic inspires an exodus from major cities.

The approved plans will involve the property being split into two lots, with the second 1189 sqm section to have an existing dwelling transformed into a reception office.

Gladstone Drafting managing director, Anthony Buenen, said the development would make use of the existing facilities and green spaces with potential alterations to make living areas more appropriate for residents.

The gated site will also include a new footpath installed along the boundary of the property on Beach Av as well as a tall timber privacy fence which be installed along the new subdivision.
