HATTON Vale State School was transformed into a treasure-hunting paradise for thrifters who came from as far as Brisbane for the weekend event.

The school was home to piles of second-hand clothes and accessories, with nothing priced above $2.

While the Lifeline Mega Sale has taken place before, this was the first time it has taken place in the Lockyer Valley.

Lifeline Retail Coordinator Cheryl Shaw said a future event may take place in Gatton.

"It was a great response from the community and we even had people from Brisbane that saw the event on Facebook and came along,” Ms Shaw said.

"There was a definite burst of activity on Saturday between 11am and 1pm.”

About 20,000 items were on sale during the weekend, including clothing, jewellery, bags, shoes, books, bric a brac, toys and DVDs.

The weekend's sales raised about $7,000, which will go towards funding the 24 hour 13 11 14 Lifeline Queensland Crisis Support Line.
