An estimated 50 students witnessed a young boy suffer significant hip, leg and arm injuries after a schoolyard game went horribly wrong.
In a letter sent home to parents, Laidley State High School principal Michael Clarkson said the student was injured on the oval before school started on Tuesday morning.
“The school has put in place procedures to identify and support students who may be upset as a result of witnessing this injury,” the letter stated.
It is understood a young boy was playing football with older students when the injuries occurred.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics treated the boy for “significant” hip, leg and arm injuries before transporting him to the Ipswich Hospital in a stable condition.
“If your student comes home from school and requires further support, please contact the school to arrange counselling through our guidance officer,” Mr Clarkson’s letter said.
