Thousands of people flocked to the Lockyer Valley at the weekend to celebrate all things Spring at Laildey.

The annual gardening fair hosted a number of events, including live music, the Friday night twilight feast and fest, orchid show, quilt and craft expo, and much more.
Lockyer Valley mayor Tanya Milligan encouraged the community to celebrate the start of spring at the Laidley Spring Festival, which celebrated its 60th anniversary.
“It’s such a wonderful time to get out – bring your friends, bring your family, bring the dog,” she said.
“We are really, really excited because our Spring Festival has been running for 60 years.
“It is pretty special to our hearts.
“The festival has always played an integral part of life in the country town of Laidley and it had certainly changed over the years.
“The fact that the event runs from (Friday), to Sunday where we have the Bee Happy Day at Forrest Hill, so people really have that time to stay and immerse themselves in the region.”
Ms Milligan said she was looking forward to the Sunday event which celebrates all things bees – which are integral to the Valley’s agriculture industry which feeds the nation.
“It’s very exciting, there will be entertainment from acrobat performers, arts and crafts, and a bee keeper talk,” she said.
Ms Milligan said she was hard-pressed to find a park when the event started on Friday, September 8, as festival goers descended upon the town.
“There were people everywhere, town was a hive of activity,” she said.
“I love seeing the people in the street, and the parade – it brings me such joy to see others joy.”
Ms Milligan said the festival ambassador for 2023 was chef and former host of River Cottage Australia Paul West, and the avid foodie and gardener will be at multiple events during the weekend.
“Mr West’s passion, enthusiasm and commitment to helping people learn how to grow their own organic produce, the importance of supporting local Aussie farmers, and investing in sustainable agriculture lines up with what we as a Council wholeheartedly believe in,” Ms Milligan said.
“It is for these reasons we are thrilled to have Mr West on board as the ambassador for the 2023 Laidley Spring Festival.”
The theme of the event for 2023 is Spring-Bling, in honor of the diamond 60th anniversary.
