Rescue chopper dispatched to Tuan Forest crash

A man and woman aged in their early 20s have been injured and the rescue helicopter dispatched to the scene of a serious crash in the Tuan Forest, south of Maryborough.

A woman in her early 20s has been flown to a southeast Queensland hospital in a serious condition after the car she was in veered off the road and slammed into a tree in the Tuan Forest, south of Maryborough.

Multiple emergency crews were called to the crash scene at Maryborough Cooloola Road, near its intersection with Poona Rd on the Cooloola Coast, shortly before 11.30am on Monday.

A QAS spokeswoman said the car was travelling along the rural stretch, about 25km southeast of Maryborough, when it left the road, rolled down an embankment, and hit the tree.

The woman and a second occupant, a man also in his early 20s, were able to free themselves from the wreckage.

He was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital with back pain.

The woman was airlifted in a serious condition with back, chest and pelvic injuries.

it has not been confirmed which hospital she has been taken to.
