Police have revealed a paramedic was assaulted at the scene of a Fraser Coast house fire which is being treated as suspicious.

Speaking to reporters about the blaze, which broke out at Granville late Monday, Detective Sergeant Dave Guild said a 42-year-old woman had been taken to hospital in Brisbane in relation to her injuries and was also “assisting” officers in their investigation.

“At the incident last night there was an ambulance officer assaulted which we‘re also following up,” Detective Sergeant Guild said.

“At this stage we’re not aware of who has started the fire, or who’s involved with the fire, so we’re just conducting those inquiries to establish a suspect,” Detective Sergeant Guild said.

“The fire’s being treated as suspicious just due to the nature of the location of the fire within the house.”

Det Sgt Guild said the fire had caused substantial damage within the house.

A crime scene was declared after the fire broke out at the corner of Maryborough St and Cardigan St about 10pm on Monday.

A Queensland Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said the house was not “fully involved” with flames but a woman was located inside the home suffering from burns to her leg and smoke inhalation.

She was transported to Maryborough Hospital in a stable condition and has since been transferred to Brisbane.

The fire had been extinguished by about 11.30pm, after which the home was ventilated by fire crews, the spokeswoman said.

A fire investigator was set to attend the scene on Tuesday morning, she said.
