Unmanned canoe found off of Urangan Pier, Hervey Bay

An investigation is underway after water police discovered an unmanned canoe was floating 2.5 nautical miles off a popular pier on Saturday.

Police are appealing for information after finding a stray canoe in the waters off Hervey Bay’s iconic Urangan Pier on Saturday.

The canoe was located just after 8.30am, approximately 2.5 nautical miles northeast of the pier.

There are no reports of missing persons in Urangan however, police are appealing for assistance to locate the owner of lost canoe.

The white canoe is described as approximately two metres long with a light-blue interior and a metal frame attached, possibly from an outrigger or crab pot launching system.

It has multiple distinctive stickers on its sides, including a T and C surf label, a ‘Balin’ logo and a ‘Rosco’ logo.

Anyone who recognises the canoe is urged to contact police.

There are no reports of missing persons in the area.
