A man who attacked the mother of his child while she was breastfeeding has been sentenced over the “disgusting” and violent act.

Tyrone Roger Brady, aged 22, pleaded guilty to numerous charges, including assault occasioning bodily harm and wilful damage when he faced Maryborough Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Magistrate John Milburn said the most serious offence related to Brady violently attacking his now former partner while she breastfed their child.

“You walked into the room and demanded that she get something for you,” Mr Milburn said.

“She said she was unable to do it as she was breastfeeding.”

Mr Milburn said Brady then began yelling, grabbed her by the hair and dragged her across the bed before walking out of the room.

A police prosecutor told the court Brady’s “horrible violence” was “disgusting” and “cowardly” behaviour.

Mr Milburn further told the court Brady had ripped a phone out of the mother’s hand and thrown it at her, causing the back of the mobile to back, and he had persistently phoned her.

“Other violence includes (Brady) striking the victim on the back and arm, which caused her to fall to the ground and immediately feel a sharp stinging pain, taking the breath from her,” Mr Milburn said.

The court heard Brady had also wilfully damaged property and had spent 19 days in custody for the offending, his first time behind bars.

Defence lawyer Virginia Ukpabi said Brady’s attack against his former partner was not protracted and there were no significant injuries.

She added Brady had no intentions of resuming the relationship and he intended to live with his father on the Sunshine Coast upon his release and find fencing work having previously worked in farming and general labouring.

Ms Ukpabi said Bradi had a troubled upbringing and had couch-surfed from a young age.

Mr Milburn said he accepted the still-young Brady wanted to work on changing himself after a difficult childhood as he sentenced him to nine months jail with a parole release date of October 18.
